Our Favorite Chanukah Toys + Books for Kids
It’s safe to say that the holidays have become even more special to me now that I’m a mom. There is nothing like seeing the world through your child’s eyes and the festival of lights is especially magical! It has been so much fun to decorate with my daughters and get into the Chanukah spirit together! Keep reading to see how we are getting ready for Chanukah this year with our favorite children’s toys and books!
I’ll begin by sharing our favorite Chanukah toys. The girls LOVE their play kitchen all year round so I knew I wanted to jazz it up for Chanukah. With a few simple touches, I was able to transform their everyday play kitchen into one fit for the holidays! I started by hanging these blue and white pom pom garlands and this glitter menorah sign to set the mood. Next I set up our new favorite toy - this colorful, wooden Chanukah set that comes with a menorah, wooden frying pan and spatula, pretend latkes (potato pancakes), a giant wooden dreidel, and play gelt (chocolate coins.) Finally, I added jar of colorful dreidels, a blue menorah hand towel, and soft Chanukah toys like this plush menorah - very baby friendly! I didn’t plan for this, but the dreidels have actually become a fun sensory toy for my toddler - she loves to count and sort them by size and color, creating rainbow patterns and beautiful designs. Even my baby has been enjoying taking the dreidels out of the jar and putting them back in. Needless to say, their Chanukah play kitchen has been a big hit!
Both of my daughters absolutely love books - we read countless books everyday and something I love to do is pick out themed books to teach them about what holidays are coming up. We’ve been building quite the collection of Chanukah books since Adina was born three years ago, and we try to add a few new ones each year. We keep the majority of the girls’ books on a bigger shelf in their room, but I like to display the seasonal books on this wooden and canvas sling bookshelf, which is the perfect size for them and very easily accessible. You can take a look at our whole Chanukah book collection and I will highlight a few of our top picks below:
Grover’s Eight Nights of Light - Perfect for the Sesame Street lover in your life! And It comes loaded with stickers of your favorite Sesame Street characters all decked out for Chanukah!
Hanukkah Baby - This one is part of the “Indestructibles” series, which means it’s rip proof (made of ultra-durable tight-woven material) and waterproof (can be chewed on, drooled on, and washed!) This book is perfect for my baby who has been having a little too much fun ripping up our paperback books lately.
Ella and Noah Celebrate Hanukkah - My 3-year-old’s #1 pick for this year! This beautiful book has interactive activities on every page, including tons of stickers and includes gorgeous illustrations of the story of Chanukah.
Goodnight Bubbala - My #1 pick for this year! A clever take on the class Goodnight Moon book, this story features Yiddish words and Jewish values and includes a special latke recipe by Ina Garten!
How Do Dinosaurs Say Happy Chanukah? - Cute picture book about a mischievous dinosaur - always gets a laugh out of my toddler!
Biscuit’s Hanukkah - This is a sweet story for children ages 1-5 featuring the adorable puppy named Biscuit.
Happy Hanukkah Corduroy - Corduroy’s having a Hanukkah party for all of his friends. First they light the menorah, then they eat yummy potato pancakes. After they open presents, there’s time for a game of dreidel.
