Spooky Stoops: Tasteful Halloween Decor

If you've been following me on Instagram for a little while, you probably know that October is one of my favorite months of the year! It is my mom's birthday month (this year her birthday fell on Friday the 13th!) and my daughter Adina's birthday month. I also love the cool chill in the air and the budding foliage as the seasons really start to change. One of the things I love most about this month is that it kicks off the holiday season, with Thanksgiving, and the winter holidays not too far away. Since Adina was born 5 days before Halloween, I did not fully appreciate the fall decor in my charming neighborhood in Park Slope, Brooklyn last year. Everyday as I stroll through the streets where I live, I am stopped dead in my tracks by the way my neighbors decorate for the season. Below are a few snapshots of my favorite exterior decorations for Halloween and fall:

It is easy to get carried away with Halloween decorations and sometimes easy to go too far into the tacky zone. But there are many ways to keep the fall decor tasteful with a hint of spook. I am constantly blown away by the way these homes are decorated! Even though people don't have large front yards, they use every possible space - from stoop stairs, to window sills, to small grass patches - to get in the spirit of the season. I love the skeletons, pumpkins, black crows, and mums that adorn these streets. These pieces are classic with a spooky twist. What is your favorite fall decoration? Do you like hay stacks and scarecrows? Skeletons and pumpkins? Or zombies and witches?
