Boston 2017 Trip Recap & Mini Travel Guide

When we found out that we had two weddings back to back in Boston right around Memorial Day, we were nervous about how we would do the 4.5 hour drive from New York to Boston two weeks in a row with a seven-month-old. After talking it through, we decided to make a trip out of it and stay for the week! Luckily, Michael was able to work out of his firm's Boston office, our close friend generously offered for us to stay at her place, and Michael's parents happily agreed to watch Adina during the weddings. We were so excited because it was our first time going back to Boston since we moved last August, after having lived there for five years! We spent the week going back to our favorite neighborhoods, trying some new restaurants and visiting friends and family.

The first wedding that we went to was at the Museum of Science in Boston. The ceremony took place outdoors overlooking the Charles River. Several duck tour boats rode by and the passengers congratulated the bride and groom as they stood under the beautiful chuppah (Jewish wedding canopy.) We got to walk around some of the exhibits during the cocktail hour and dined and danced the night away under a lit-up tent and outdoor ballroom.

It was the first wedding I had been to since Adina was born, so I wasn't quite sure what to wear or if I'd feel comfortable in an evening gown post-baby. I ended up wearing a floor-length orange and yellow floral print dress by Guess with an open back and paired it with white Druzy drop earrings. I got a romantic braided "uptini" at Drybar earlier in the day with some girlfriends and I felt fun and summer-y as we kicked off the wedding season.

The second wedding that we attended was at the New Bedford Whaling Museum. After a heartfelt ceremony officiated by the couple’s long time professor, we enjoyed cocktail hour in one of the exhibits that featured a huge whaling ship. The reception was full of fun details including a Polaroid camera station and a selection of local artisan donuts. I wore a pink floral print midi dress by Kate Spade and paired it with blush accessories, from my heels to my tassel earrings to my purse. I fell in love with the colors and pattern of the dress - the pink rose print is beyond beautiful, right?!

We stayed at our friends apartment in South Boston for the week. Although we lived in Boston for five years, I hadn't really spent much time in Southie. I loved exploring a new neighborhood and checking out a few of the local restaurants. Two of our favorite places were Loco Taqueria & Oyster Bar and Lincoln Tavern, located on the main street West Broadway. Also worth checking out were a home decor store called Neatly Nested and an upscale consignment shop called Covet, where I scored a few new pieces!

Throughout the week, we introduced Adina to LOTS of friends and visited some of my favorite spots in Boston, including:

  • Back Bay: strolling around Newbury Street and Copley Square

  • Beacon Hill: exploring the quaint cobblestone streets & enjoying a pistachio filled croissant at Tatte Bakery and Cafe

  • Boston Public Garden: I couldn't resist taking pictures of Adina on the Make Way for the Ducklings statue! We also loved watching the iconic swan boats go by. The Boston Common also had a special display of 37,000 American flags in honor of Memorial Day

  • Coolidge Corner, Brookline: Oath Craft Pizza

  • Washington Square, Brookline: Barcelona Wine Bar

  • Cambridge: Harvard Square, Central Square, Cambridgeport

  • Faneuil Hall

  • Boston Public Market

  • Boston Seaport

  • Freedom Trail

Boston holds a very special place in my heart. It is the city where Michael and I started our first full-time jobs, where we lived in our first home together, and where we got engaged. It was so much fun to be back in there and celebrate with our friends two weekends in a row. It was especially cool to show Adina the place I called home for so many years. Although we may not live in Boston, we now have made new family memories there and even have some new cute Red Sox onesies for Adina to wear. I guess it’s true what they say...you can take the girl out of Boston, but you can't take Boston out of the girl!

Love, Ariel
